Spadchyna NGO takes fresh attempt to register
Civil society activists of Biaroza and Lida are going to resume their efforts to register local cultural and educational association Spadchyna (“Heritage”).
After a constituent assembly, the representatives of the organizing committee filed their application to the Department of Justice of the Hrodna Regional Executive Committee.
The purpose of the association is to contribute to the conservation of the Belarusian language, heritage of the ancestors, cultural traditions. Therefore, the name “Heritage” was not a random choice.
Siarhei Trafimchyk, one of the co-founders of the association, hopes that the NGO will be registered, as the activists have a lot of ideas:
- People want to work and they want to work legally. Not to hide, not to worry about Article 193.1 of the Criminal Code, which provides for liability for acting on behalf of an unregistered organization.
In 2009, the Main Department of Justice of the Hrodna Regional Executive Committee refused to register the NGO. The main ground for the refusal was a few flaws in the organization's charter. The activists failed to defend their position in court.
The results of the second attempt to register Spadchyna will be announced within a month.
