On 9 November Dzmitry Dashkevich, the leader of the international organization Young Front (Czech Republic), who is now in the Grodna prison No 1, met his lawyer.

A the deputy chairwoman and Dashkevich’s fiancée Anastasia Palazhanka told BelaPAN, Dzmitry told the lawyer about the details of his transfer from Mozyr to Grodna. “Dashkevich was sent for the transfer only on 4 November. He spent a day in the Mogilev prison, another day – in the one of Baranavichy, In the morning on 7 November he arrived to the Grodno prison No 1. He spent a day in the quarantine, after which he was transferred to a cell in the prison’s new building, which the prisoner call American”, - Anastasia told.

She also noted that, according to Dashkevich, in the “American” building compared to the old prison’s building – the Bastion – there is a more strict control on the part of the administration, but at the same time the issue of the proportion between the number of prisoners and sleeping accommodations is not so acute. So far the conditions in the Grodna prison are not much different from the conditions in the cells of the cololies in Glubokae and Mozyr, where Dashkevich was previously kept. According to Palazhanka, Dzmitry feels cheerful and does not complain about anything so far.

Dzmitry Dashkevich was detained in Minsk on 18th December 2010 together with another Young Front’s activist Eduard Lobau and accused of beating to men. Representatives of opposition and human rights defenders took their arrest as a preventive measure of cleansing the society before the elections. In March 2011 court found Dashkevich guilty and sentenced him to two years in a general regime colony. International human rights organizations recognized Dashkevich as a political prisoner.
