The local coordinator of the Movement "For Freedom" Dzianis Turchaniak addressed members of the Brest Region Council with the request to abolish the ruling of the Brest City Executive Committee concerning the construction of a hotel complex in a place where some historical buildings are located.

The ruling was issued on 13 June 2011 and served as the basis for concluding an investment agreement with the "MFB Development" firm for implementation of the investment project "Administrative and hotel complex in Savetskaya Street in the city of Brest". The project provides the dismantlement houses #43 and 45 in this street, though they possess the status of historical and cultural monuments.

Mr. Turchaniak states that the ruling was adopted with numerous violations. In particular, citizens were deprived of the right to express their opinions, there was no public discussion of the project, though it concerned historical monuments.

Dwellers of houses #43 and #45 had been evicted from them several years ago, but still continue struggling for their property. Moreover, dwellers of neighboring houses oppose this "reconstruction" too and have filed a collective appeal against it with the ministers of culture, public utilities and architecture and building.
