Ukraine supports the statement of the European Union which condemns the execution by the Belarusian authorities of the persons charged with terrorist attack in Minsk metro.

“Ukrainian News” website has been informed about that by the director of the informational policy department of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Ukraine Oleh Voloshyn.

“In this problem we support the respective statement of the European Union… As it is known, Ukraine has always been consistently advocating the abolition of capital punishment in Belarus, which is in line with the common criteria adopted in Europe,” he stated.

According to the report of the press-service of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, she resolutely condemned carrying out executions of Uladzislau Kavalyou and Dzmitry Kanavalau, stressing that they had been denied the right to defense.

As said by her, the EU opposes the use of capital punishment under all circumstances.
