Barysau: detention of Anatol Askerka and Ivan Shutko
At about 11
a.m. on 9 March police officers came to Anatol Askerka's
home and took him away to the Barysau District Police Bureau. He managed to
phone to human rights defender Aleh Matskevich and tell him about it.
According to Askerka's wife, the police told that somebody had either punctured or removed tires from a neighbor's car.
Youth activist Ivan Shutko was detained and guarded to the Barysau District Police Bureau at about the same time.
At about 2 p.m. the legally allowed preliminary detention term of Anatol Askerka was over. He phoned to human rights defender Maryna Statkevich and told her that he was put under arrest.
As it was found, he was placed in the pre-trial prison of the Barysau DPB. On 10 March he will be tried for an action in support of political prisoner Andrei Sannikau held on his birthday, 8 March.
According to Askerka's wife, he was to have gone to a health center to receive a spine treatment. He won't be able to do it if the court sentences him to arrest.
