The wife of the political prisoner, Volha Bandarenka, has seen her husband in the penal colony.

“He had spine pain before, because he has not recovered after the surgery yet. But his leg became very bad – he cannot move it. I do not know what caused this, maybe the transfer to the colony or inability to fulfill doctor’s recommendations on post-operative rehabilitation in the colony,” Volha Bandarenka told Belsat after her visit to the Mahilou colony.

Volha talked to Zmitser Bandarenka on the phone through a glass barrier. The political prisoner told his wife he wouldn’t be transferred to a prison squad in the nearest time. The chief of the medical unit also assured the woman that Bandarenka would remain there so far.

“Zmitser knows that 11 “Decembrists” were released yesterday. He is very happy, especially for his friend Alyaksandr Atroshchankau. He is not going to apply for a pardon. He says he will return home by the middle of October without any petitions,” Volha Bandarenka says.

Zmitser was proposed twice to sign a pardon petition. If it was just a proposal for the first time, it sounds more like a strong recommendation for the second time. “He was called up at the end of last week. When he refused to sign, they started to press him psychologically, so to say. They advised to think about himself, his family. They intimidate he can face very serious problems with health and threatened to transfer his to the general squad from the medical unit,” Volha Bandarenka says. According to her, Zmitser looks confident, he says he is ready for everything and jokes he does not need to apply for pardon because his health is already ruined.

Zmitser Bandarenka, a coordinator of European Belarus civil campaign, was an election agent of presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov at the latest presidential elections. He was sentenced to two years in a minimum security penal colony in the December 19 case. He serves sentence in a penal colony in Mahilou. Zmitser Bandarenka’s correspondence address: 213105, Mogilev, Slavgorodskoye Shosse, Veino, IK № 15.
