The Solidarnost Russian liberal democratic political movement has released a petition demanding release of Ivan Gaponov and Artyom Breus, together with all the detainees in the 19 December criminal case.

“On 19 December 2010 Minsk police dispersed a peaceful protest against the official results of the presidential election. Over 600 demonstrators were detained and sentenced to various terms of administrative arrest. There are two Russian citizens among those arrested and facing criminal charges – Ivan Gaponov and Artyom Breus; they may be imprisoned for up to 8 years. However, there have been no evidence of their guilt so far”, says the statement.

Therefore, Solidarnost calls upon the Belarusian authorities to stop criminal prosecution of Ivan Gaponov and Artyom Breus. The movement also demands to release all the persons accused of participation in the 19 December mass riots.
