The Leninski
District Court of Hrodna started the trial of Aleh Kalinkou, an electioneering
agent of the presidential candidate Uladzimir Niakliayeu.
Mr. Kalinkou is charged with resistance to the police.
‘Policemen in civvies waited for me in a car at the entrance of my porch. I was
getting into my car when they came up and asked for a cigarette. I got
frightened and tried to return to the porch. Then I was detained there,’ said Aleh.
Despite the fact that the trial was open, Judge Vital Liadzko banned representatives
of private media from attending it.
The police witness didn’t appear at court, as a result of which the judge had
to postpone the trial till 26 January.
