Baranavichy: secret sitting of city electoral commission
The first sitting of the Baranavichy City Territorial Election Commission was held in the atmosphere of secrecy on 30 September. It was impossible to find anything about it on the phone and there was n information in the state newspaper Nash Krai either.
During the day, human rights activists sought to ‘disclose this state secret’, but in vain. The representative of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee Karnei Piatrovich went to the organizational and personnel department of the Baranavichy Executive Committeee and the representative of the Belarusian Language Society Siarhei Housha called there on the phone all day. The ideological department of the executive committee ‘didn’t know’ anything about the sitting either. The secretary of the reception room of the executive committee told Mr. Housha that the head of the organizational and personnel department Volha Dudko went to the polyclinic. However, when the Deputy Chairperson of the executive committee, Dzmitry Kastsiukevich learned that Siarhei Housha was preparing a complaint to the Central Electoral Commission, he said that the head of the organizational and personnel department was at the sitting of the electoral commission.
That's how ‘openly and transparently’ the Baranavichy City Territorial Election Commission started its work.
