Zmitser Dashkevich and Aliaksei Shein detained on the border

On 11 February in the morning, Zmitser Dashkevich, leader of the Young Front, Aliaksei Shein, co-Chairman of the organizing committee of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party, were detained on the Belarusian-Latvian border for five hours.

Yauhen Zhykh, chief inspector of the Ashmiany customs office, ordered to take away for an expertise six CDs with the Forbidden Christ – a 52-minute documentary by Aliaksei Shein, dedicated to the topic of confrontation between the Soviet state system and Evangelists in the Belarusian Social Soviet Republic. A copy of the Maladafrontautsy book, and a brochure about activities of the European Christian movement were confiscated as well.

Dashkevich and Shein were going for a meeting with Latvian politicians. Democratic activists are constantly searched and detained on the Belarusian border. For instance, recently border guards have searched the well-known political activist Stanislau Shushkevich when he was returning home from a business trip to Kyiv.
