Östgruppen joins the campaign for abolishment of Article 193.1

Members of the Swedish human rights initiative Östgruppen stated their support to the campaign for abolishment of Article 193.1 of the Criminal Code of Belarus that provides criminal punishment for participation in unregistered organization. The campaign has been launched by the Assembly of Pro-democratic NGOs.
The human rights activists from Östgruppen call on the governments of Sweden and the EU to support this action.
‘This article is a rude violation of the UN Convention on civil and political rights. That’s why the leaders of Sweden and the EU must support the campaign that has been launched in Belarus and also the courageous Belarusian who, despite pressurization and persecution are trying to establish NGOs in Belarus,’ stated the Östgruppen leader Martin Uggla.
