On 12 May the Young Front Minsk coordinator Pavel Kuryianovich and an activist Viktoryia Ladzis were detained in Minsk.

The young people were disseminating stickers with information about the march For Independence! which is to take place on 14 May.

Viktoryia Ladzis was released after 3 hours as a minor, and a report was drawn up against Minsk coordinator of Young Front Pavel Kuryianovich on charged relating article 23.23 – ‘violation of the rules of organizing and holding mass events’, mfront.net writes.

An administrative process over the oppositionist is to take place today in the court of Pershamaiski district of Minsk.

Pavel Kuryianovich refused to eat in the police department, and told that if the court would sentence him to an arrest, he would join the hunger strike of solidarity with political prisoners held by public and political activists of Belarus since 4 May.

The march “For Independence!” is to take place in Minsk on 14 May. It is planned that the rally will begin at 6 p.m. in Kastrychnitskaya Square and will continue in Independence Square. Young Front activists are not going to apply to Minks city executive committee for authorization of the rally.

14 years ago at a referendum of 1995, national symbols of Belarus (the coat of arms and the flag) were replaced by neo-Soviet ones, while the Russian language was given the status of the state language on an equal basis with the Belarusian language.

Viktoryia Lazis studies at the artistic college named after Akhremchyk. At present she has to stay at the college, because the head of the curriculum department refuses to let her out before the arrival of KGB officers.
