Five activists of the civil campaign “European Belarus” and six members of the “Young Front” were detained in Brest at the action on Solidarity Day.

The young people came to the central square of Brest with a banner “Freedom to Political prisoners!” and an EU flag. Some minutes later they were detained.

As activist of the civil campaign “European Belarus” Yauhen Skrabets managed to tell on phone, five activists had been guarded to a militia department.

Participants of the action of solidarity with families of the disappeared politicians were also detained in Brest.

As BelaPAN learnt from human rights activist Raman Kislyak, the action was organized by eight local activists of the “Young Front” on April 16. At 6.40 p.m., they stood near a pedestrian crossing in Maskouskaya Street. The activists were holding portraits of disappeared Yury Zakharanka, Viktar Hanchar, Anatol Krasouski, Zmitser Zavadski and were handing round leaflets with information about them.

At 18.55 p.m., militia officers came up to them. Six activists were guarded to the nearest militia station for clearing up the details. The detainees were told in the militia station militia had received in formation about a fight at the place of the picket holding.

The activists of the “European Belarus” and “Young Front” had to spend the night in the temporary detention facility. The young oppositionists stand trials today under article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Offences for participation in an authorized action.
