Kazulin’s daughters go on hunger strike

Daughters of the political prisoner Alyaksandr Kazulin have gone on hunger strike at 2.00pm in protest of the fact the authorities refuse to release their father Alyaksandr Kazulin. Wife of the political prisoner Iryna Kazulina died of the serious disease on 23 February. The political prisoner wasn’t released nor given a leave to say farewell to his wife.
“We demand our father to be released. Doesn’t Lukashenka have the mother? Can’t he understand us? We want to pay last tribute to our mother as a family. We won’t end our hunger strike unless our father is released,” Yulya Kazulina said in the interview to the Charter’97 press center.
It should be reminded that daughter of the political prisoner Alyaksandr Kazulin addressed Belarusians with a call to come to October (Kastrychnitskaya) Square today at 6.00pm with candles and portraits of their mother –Iryna Kazulina, who died on 23 February.
“People of Belarus! We address you in very difficult time for our family: we have lost our mother. Many people are coming, phoning and writing to us with messages of condolence. Our hearts are broken. Without our father we can’t bury our mother. We are thankful for your support and sympathy. Let’s be together in this hard time! Come with candles to October Square at 6.00pm today, 25 February. Remember Iryna Kazulina, pay tribute to her!” the address runs.
Alyaksandr Kazulin is to go on a dry hunger strike in protest. “In this case we’ll be buried together with my wife in 6-7 days,” the statement of the political prisoner runs.
