Brest Oblast: 117 against Repeal of Benefits

The activists of Brest regional coalition of democratic forces have submitted to the authorities 117 applications for authorization of pickets against the repeal of social benefits. 65 applications were filed in Brest, 37 – in Brest district, 11 – in Baranavichy and 4 – in Belaaziorsk. 

All the pickets are timed to 16 December, a day of solidarity with the political prisoners of Belarus. 

‘We intend to inform the people about the liquidation of the social guarantees. The upcoming adoption of the law on state social benefits, rights and guarantees for certain categories of citizens’ violates the fundamentals of the political system of the Republic of Belarus as a social state. We also intend to speak about the decrease of the general life standards for common people, who already feel it due to the growth of the prices for the foodstuffs,’ stated the deputy chair of Brest oblast office of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada) Valiantsin Lazaronkau. 

According to him, during the pickets the opposition activists intend to hand out informational materials concerning the liquidation of social benefits.
