Celebration of anniversary of Slutsk Defence Action permitted

The Minsk City Executive Committee permitted holding the events in places, connected with the history of Slutsk Defence Action. Historian Anton Astapovich, one of the organisers of the anniversary celebration, said:

“I sent an appeal for holding the actions of memory ten days ago. Today I received a call from the City Executive Committee. They said the action was permitted and the authorities didn’t mind the event to be held. We will visit the villages Semezhava, Vyzna, Grozava, where the memorable crosses are situated, Slutsk, estate of Anton Biely and building of the rebellion army command staff, where the act on rebellion was signed. We’ll also visit Starya Darogi,” the historian said.

Slutsk Defence Action is one of the most important dates in Belarusian history:

“The announcement of the Belarusian National Republic and Slutsk Defence Action are two the most significant events in Belarusian history of the XXth century for me. If 25 March was the announcement of the BNR, the events in November were an attempt to defend the Independence of Belarus. It was heroic attempt to preserve the Belarusian National Republic. How did 10-12 thousands of insurgents manage to fight against many-thousands Soviet army for a month? These people showed great courage and heroism,” Anton Astapovich says.

It should be reminded that organisers of the excursions are the civil association the Belarusian Popular Front “Revival” and the BPF party.
