The director of the Institute of Linguistics of the Academy of Sciences proposed to establish an additional demand for pretenders to work in the state organs. Aliaksandr Lukashanets proposed scientists to initiate a legal norm, according to which a good command of both languages would become an obligatory condition for employment to the organs of the state government.

In his speech at the sitting of the section of humanities and art Mr. Lukashanets emphasized that such a demand would help the Belarusian teachers to form a bilingual person who understands the value of the national and cultural priorities of the country.

‘If the pupil and his parents understand that in order to occupy a position one really needs to know Belarusian, their attitude to its study will change fundamentally,’ quotes BelTA.

‘In this case the Belarusian society will receive a person who is to the greatest extent prepared to successful activity in the conditions of the contemporary multilingual and multicultural international community’, stated the director of the Institute of Linguistics.
