Zmitser Zhaleznnichenka to Serve Eight Days in Jail

As Viasna found out, yesterday police drew up two reports about youth activist Zmitser Zhaleznichenka: for disorderly conduct (foul language) and insubordination to police orders. Today judge Maryna Damnenka considered the charges in court. Under the first charge Zmitser Zhaleznichenka was sentenced to eight days of jail, under the second – to 20 basic units of fine.

Yesterday at 6.20 p.m. Zmitser Zhaleznichenka was detained in the center of Homel on the accusation of raping a girl. Police officers took the youth activist to Chyhunachny police department, but the victim did not recognize Zhaleznichenka as the rapist. Then the police took the youth activist to Centralny police department, where the police officers drew up the above mentioned reports. The police did not allow a lawyer to visit Zmitser. In the beginning of September administration of Mathematics Faculty of Homel State University expelled the straight-A student from college. The third year student was kicked out of school for his political activity, however, the rector’s order reads: “for systematic violation of University rules”.
