EU commissioner for external relations and European neighborhood policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner expressed her concern with the detention of an oppositional activist Viachaslau Siuchyk and the chair of the Belarusian People’s Front Vintsuk Viachorka. She stated that Siuchyk and Viachorka have been arrested many times for expression for their political views. B.Ferrero-Waldner urged the Belarusian authorities to urgently release all those who are kept in jails for political motives.

V.Viachorka and V.Siuchyk were released from a jail in Akrestsin Street in Minsk on 14 March. However, on 23 March they will be tried for ‘petty hooliganism’ as the police drew the appropriate violations reports on them.
