Dzianis Dzianisau’s mother had applied to Vitsebsk regional prosecutor’s office with the request to explain the reasons for detention of her son. In the answer it is stated that ‘Dzianisau together with at least 25 other persons who had more than 1 000 leaflets with them was detained in the evening of 17 June 2006 during an attempt of holding an illegal action near the summer amphitheater in Vitsebsk. On 19 June a criminal case under part 1 of article 14 and part 1 of article 342 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (organization, preparation or participation in the actions that grossly violate the public order) was brought against D.Dzianisau and other persons’. Thus, Dzianis Dzianisau faces up to 3 years of jail. In the answer it is stated that the term of the investigation ends on 16 March and there are all legal grounds to keep the activist in custody.

We should remind that Dzianis Dzianisau was detained on 16 February in a train to Homel. At first he was kept in the investigative isolator of Homel and then was transferred to Vitsebsk investigative isolator #2. His mother was also told she would have to apply to the investigator to get permission for meeting with her son.
