Action in Support of Political Prisoners on 8 March
More than 100 people took part in the rally on March 8 in the center of Minsk. Participants demanded to cancel ‘political’ articles of the Criminal Code and to release people convicted under these articles. People gathered at the crossing of Haradski Val and Niamiha Streets and marched to Valadarski Street.
The protesters clasped their hands behind their head, and had plates with numbers of articles under which well-known Belarusian politicians, public activists and human rights activists were sentenced. When the column came to the prison, the plates were thrown into a fire. Two participants of the rally spread a streamer ‘Freedom to political prisoners!’
Though many young people were taking part in the protest, only one puzzled policeman was met by them. Nobody was detained.
