On 27 February Anatol Liaukovich, acting head of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada) said in his interview to Radio Racyja: ‘We have applied to the chair of Minsk city executive committee Mikhail Paulau with a written request for facilitation in the search of a room for our assembly. We still haven’t received any answer. Then we independently applied to the administration of Minsk International Education Center and the Culture House of Minsk Tractor Plant. In the first case we were told it was ‘inexpedient’ to provide room for such measure and in the second – that some events had been already appointed on 4 March, the day of the assembly.’

That’s why, Mr. Liaukovich said, the 11th assembly of the party would most probably take place at the headquarters of the Belarusian People’s Front Party. ‘Of course, it is really inconvenient, as there is little space at the BPF headquarters. However, our party is officially registered at the Ministry of Justice. That’s why I don’t think the authorities will put any obstacles to us.’ The assembly will be attended by about 150 delegates. The main topic in the agenda is re-election of the administration. The candidacy of Aliaksandr Kazulin (who spends his 5,5-year prison term) has been nominated for the chairman’s position.
