In the evening of 4 November near the railway station in Brest the police detained Stsiapan Navaselchan, the chair of Brest regional branch of the United Civil Party. Mr Navaselchan was going to a conference in Kyiv in order to take part in the meeting of representatives of the regional coalitions of Belarus that was dedicated to the electoral campaign to local deputy soviets. During the detention the police referred to an anonymous telephone call informing them about Navaselchan’s attempt to smuggle something to the Ukraine. The police detained Mr Navaselchan for two hours at Brest Leninski Borough Department of Internal Affairs. They composed a report of search and took an explanatory note from him. Despite the fact that no accusations were given, they confiscated his passport. A similar thing happened in Belaaziorsk to the chair of Brest regional branch of the Belarusian People’s Front Iury Hubarevich.
