On September 19 the board of judges of Minsk city court upheld the verdict to Alexander Kazulin, former presidential candidate.
Judges Liudmila Shapashnikava, Valer Kamisarau and Siarhei Khrypach ignored all statements of Kazulin’s lawyers who spoke about procedural infractions during the trial in Maskouski borough court. The judges’ board also dismissed a motion about Kazulin’s personal participation during the hearing.
Prosecutor Ivanushkin opposed the claims. He stated, there were no grounds to change the verdict, passed by Maskouski court judge Aliaksei Rybakou.
The hearing was attended by diplomats of the EU countries, human rights defenders, political leaders and activists. Among others, Anatol Liabedzka, Liudmila Hraznova, Paval Znavets, Anatol Liaukovich, Aliaksei Karol, and Valer Shchukin came to show solidarity with the former presidential candidate.
Kazulin is to serve 5.5 years of imprisonment
