On 26 October activists of the Union of Poles unrecognized by the authorities were summonsed for interrogations in Shchuchyn. They are Andrei Pachobut and Adrzej Pisalnik, and also deputy chairs of the UPB Iuzaf Pazhetski and Veslav Keuliak. They are suspects in a criminal case by terms of Article 185 of the Criminal Code, reported Radio Liberty.
The case claims that in Jule UPB activists from Hrodna threatened violence as they forced Viktar Bohdan, director of the Shchuchyn Polish House, to give up the keys to the Polish House and resign. Article 185 provides for maximal punishment of up to two years of restricted freedom – the so-called "labor" sentence. The case was initiated by the Shchuchyn District Procurator's Office after Mr. Bohdan had filed a written application.
The other day the Hrodna police detained Andrei Pachobut, took him to Shchuchyn, where an investigator said that he would have to provide a written undertaking not to leave the city. The police refused to take the journalists back, though it was about 10 p.m.
