The police told the political prisoner. The time when he would be sent is also indicated – 22 September. The Tsentralny Borough Court of Minsk punished the opposition politician with restricted freedom for a year and a half for organizing a street action on 25 March held under the slogan of resignation of Aliaxandr Lukashenka. The court took into account the time Andrei Klimau spent in the investigative center and so he will spend a year and three months serving his "penal labor" sentence.
Andrei Klimau told Radio Liberty that he will be looking for work in Krupki district. The opposition politician would like to work as a fire-fighter because he has some related experience. He believes that the authorities deliberately sent him to the "remotest" part of Minsk Oblast because they had taken into account his request for a leave.
From 1998 to 2000 Andrei Klimau was in prison for allegedly illegal business activity. International human rights groups and independent experts called that case political short work, because the opposition deputy of the Supreme Soviet had supported the resignation of Aliaxandr Lukashenka. Last year the procurator's office launched criminal proceedings against Andrei Klimau for libeling Aliaxandr Lukashenka. The articles by the opposition politician distributed on the territory of Belarus were the reason. Pershamaiski Borough Court of Minsk dropped the criminal proceedings in July after a verdict for staging a street opposition action on 25 March had been passed.
