On 26 July in the evening three leaders of the Union of Poles in Belarus were detained in Shchuchin – Iuzaf Pazhetski, Mechyslau Iashkievich and Andrei Pachobut.
So far they have not been released from the police station. Most probably today on 27 July they will be tried. The detained activists will be accused of holding an unauthorized picket in Shchuchin on 3 July this year. This time Iuzaf Pazhetski, Mechyslau Iashkievich and Andrei Pachobut came to Shchuchin to observe the regular organization farce of the former leadership of the Union of Poles – the former Supreme Council is having a meeting in Shchuchin today to select the date for a repeated congress. Yesterday the former chair of UPB in the building of the Polish school in Hrodna gathered all of his adherents from the old composition of the UPB Council and said that the new leadership of the organization is living its last day. What is behind these words will become clear in the near future, but already in the night the apartment of the democratically elected chair of the Union of Poles in Belarus Anzhalika Borys was again raided by the police.
It became known that the activists detained in Shchuchin will most likely be tried in Lida. The thing is that the wife of the local UPB branch head Viktar Bohdan who supports Kruczkowski, Tamara Bohdan works as a judge in the local court. Thus, the Shchuchin authorities either misinform the community or attempt to save their reputation.
