Ales Mikhalevich, 28, director of private travel agency, chairs Minsk region branch of Belarusian Popular Front.
This year Mikhalevich was elected to Pukhavichy city council. Recently he was invited to a cafe by a KGB officer,
who called himself Siarhei.
Mikhalevich: "In the beginning he made different offers. Generally, he offered support in elections, knowing I
planned to run for the parliament. He said, they could help me to get elected, if I agreed to cooperate with them.
Offers were followed by threats. He said, everybody is sinful, everyone could get in trouble:"
Mikhalevich says, the KGB officer Siarhei made no secret of his goals. He was interested in information about
financial affairs of opposition forces.
Mikhalevich: "They know about my regular trips abroad. They offered to assist me in bringing money in. They say,
they want the money come only to me, and nobody else".
Mikhalevich refused from cooperation with KGB because of his moral principles.
