Tax inspectors examine all financial documentation of 13 branches of Belarusian Helsinki Committee since 1995 – the time it was founded. Tatsiana Protska, BHC chairperson, believes the reason for the check-up is the recent TV program “To the Point”, released by Belarusian TV on August 9. Its host Yawhen Novikaw accused human rights defenders not only of political, but criminal activity. BHC leaders think about suing Novikaw for libel.
