INFORMATION MINISTRY AND STATE CONTROL COMMITTEE TO AUDIT THE SALIDARNASTS NEWSPAPER
BelaPAN reports, in the morning of 6 June representatives of Information Ministry and State Control Committee arrived in Salihorsk (Minsk region) to audit The Salidarnasts newspaper.
At that moment newspaper editor-in-chief Alexander Starykevich was in Minsk, participating in the congress of Belarusian Association of Journalists.
According to A. Starykevich, “the newspaper captured close attention of the state bodies because of its action of solidarity with The BDG”. In his opinion, “the authorities just decided to find a reason to suppress The Salidarnasts”.
The Salidarnasts, founded by Belarusian Independent Trade Union, resumed publishing on April 24, 2003, after a forced break. Alexander Starykevich became its new editor-in-chief. Until July 2002 he headed The Belaruski Chas edition, owned by the Trade Union Federation of Belarus.
