SUPREME COURT REJECTS SUIT OF BELARUSIAN LANGUAGE SOCIETY TO JUSTICE MINISTRY
On 28 January the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus did not satisfy the suit of the Belarusian Language Society to the Ministry of Justice. BLS protested against the warning issued by the Justice Ministry.
The official warning consisted of several parts. One reason for the warning was installation of the memorial Cross of Martyrdom near Belitsa, Lida district (the cross is dedicated to representatives of Lida nobility, perished in the 17th century). Belitsa council gave permission to install the cross. However, the Ministry of Justice decided that the Belarusian Language Society had no right to install the cross.
Besides that, BLS was accused of not using the full name of the organization on its ads in Minsk subway (BLS advertised the Month of Belarusian Language as part of its campaign to promote the usage of the Belarusian language). However, this accusation is groundless, because each ad had a big-size symbol of BLS, which contained the full name of the organization, as it stands in the Statute.
Now the Belarusian Language Society has 2 warnings from the Ministry of Justice.
