The Human Rights Center “Viasna”

As the “Human Rights Defenders for Free Elections” learned, the head of the educational department of the Tsentralny District Executive Committee of Homel Aleh Leushunou intends to run for the Parliament at Homel-Central election constituency #33.

On 11 August captain Mikalai Selivonik, a police inspector of the Leninski district of Brest, phoned to human rights defender Uladzimir Malei and stated that he was to visit the police department in connection with his race along the streets of Brest on 4 August, on the anniversary of the imprisonment of the head of the Human Rights Center “Viasna” Ales Bialiatski.

The court of Orsha and the Orsha district turned down the appeal of the Vitsebsk regional organization of the Belarusian Leftist Party “Fair World” against the non-inclusion of its members in the precinct election commissions of Orsha.

On 11 August three men assaulted Aliaksandr Marchanka, a member of the electoral team of the leader of the Movement “For Freedom” Aliaksandr Milinkevich. That day Marchanka collected signatures in the underground pedestrian crossing on the metro station “Uruchcha”.

Canvassing in support of the candidacy of civil activist Ihar Sluchak ended with a conflict. Ihar and his brother were collecting signatures in Bratou Liziukovykh Street. A man ran out from one of the apartments in a block house and tried to provoke a fight.

A special control regime has been established in the hostel in Krupskaya Street 178. Its doorkeeper has a list of persons who are prohibited to enter it. The list includes human rights defender Barys Bukhel, an activist of the Independent Trade Union of Radio-Electronic IndustryAliaksei Paulouski, a leader of the Mahiliou organization of the Belarusian leftist party “Fair World” Anatol Zauyalau and other democratic activists.

In the beginning of August the state-owned newspaper “Polatski Vesnik” started publishing articles about activities of Natallia Huivik, the head of the Polatsk City Council who is running for the Parliament.
