One month ago, Ales Bialiatski, the human rights activist, the leader of the Human Rights Center Viasna, our friend and colleague, was arrested in the Republic of Belarus.
06.09.2011 Actions in support of Ales Bialiatski
On 5 September actions of solidarity with the arrested head of the Human Rights Center Viasna Ales Bialiatski took place near the Embassies of Belarus in Stockholm, Moscow, Kyiv, Vilnius, Yerevan and other cities.
06.09.2011 Homel: four people detained for collecting signatures
At about 7 p.m. in Yubileinaya Street in Homel the police detained four civil activists who were collecting signatures for holding the People's Assembly in Homel on 8 October in order to discuss the political and economical situation and set forth proposals and demands to the authorities.
06.09.2011 Search at Ales Kalita's apartment
On 5 September the apartment rented by a member of the Belarusian Popular Front Party was searched by the police. This information was voiced by Aliaksei Yanukevich, BPF Chair. Earlier Ales Kalita had been interrogated within the framework of the criminal case instigated against him and two other BPF members, Maksim Hubarevich and Siarhei Semianiuk, for beating a guard.
06.09.2011 Vitsebsk: postcard flash-mob in support of Ales Bialiatski
Vitsebsk civil and political activists, human rights and journalists answered the call of the Human Rights Center Viasna to send letters of support to Ales Bialiatski. During several days they wrote about thirty letters on postcards and sent them to the remand prison #1 in Valadarski Street in Minsk.
